Frequently Asked Questions

  • Permanent jewelry refers to custom-fit bracelets, anklets, or necklaces that are welded closed instead of using a traditional clasp. The jewelry is intended to be worn continuously and symbolizes something meaningful—like friendship, love, or commitment.

  • No, the welding process is completely painless. The jewelry is welded using a quick and safe spark that never touches your skin. A cloth or skin protector is always used to ensure safety.
  • Most permanent jewelry is made from high-quality, tarnish-resistant metals such as:

    • 14k gold-filled

    • Solid 14k gold

    • Sterling silver

These materials are selected for their durability and skin-friendliness.

  • Yes. While the piece is meant to be "permanent," it can be removed by cutting it with small scissors or wire cutters at the welded jump ring. Many jewelers also offer re-welding services if you want it back on later.
  • Yes, permanent jewelry is TSA-friendly and will not need to be removed during security screening.
  • Permanent jewelry may need to be removed for certain medical procedures—especially MRIs and surgeries. Always check with your healthcare provider or testing center beforehand.

    • MRI: The strong magnetic field can cause burns or distort results. Most MRI centers require all metal jewelry to be removed.

    • X-rays: Usually safe, but it's best to confirm with the facility.

    • Surgeries: Jewelry is typically removed if it’s near the surgical site or if electrocautery is used.

    • Other Procedures: Always ask your provider if removal is necessary.

If removal is required, clip the jewelry at the jump ring or let me handle it for you. As the artist behind your piece, I offer free re-welding for all original pieces from One Link at a Time—just bring it back! If the original is lost, a small fee may apply.

A note from Founder, Karrie Stone

Hi, I’m Karrie Stone—mom of five, animal lover, and former corporate warrior turned creative entrepreneur. I fell in love with permanent jewelry after my husband and I got matching bracelets, and since then, I’ve added more pieces and a passion for the art. With a background in jewelry and welding from my Art major at the University of Michigan and years of experience in skincare consulting with Rodan + Fields, I knew I had the skills and heart to launch something new. After linking with my granddaughter and seeing her joy, “One Link at a Time” was born—offering custom-fitted, micro-welded jewelry from my tiny camper “Lemon Pop” at pop-ups, parties, and events. I can’t wait to share my creativity and connect with you—one link at a time!
